Book points are awarded to members for achievements in the BAP, HAP and Bowl Show programs. About twice a year, those who have earned book points may cash them in for aquarium related book purchased by MAS. Our club is able to obtain popular and rare books at bargain rates.
How Points are Obtained:
The Book Points Chair will publish the earned points at monthly meetings near purchasing time.
Each person with points to spend will be given a list of books with the corresponding book point value.
Books not on the list might also be ordered. The chair will determine the point values, cost and availability to MAS.
How Books are Obtained
The Book Points Chair will publish the earned points at monthly meetings near purchasing time. Each person with points to spend will be given a list of books with the corresponding book point value. Books not on the list might also be ordered with the chair determining the point values pending the book cost and availability to MAS.
Value of Book Points
The value of book points is determined by a percentage of BAP/HAP sales, so the exact dollar value spent by MAS can vary slightly for each purchase. The value is determined by how much the book costs the club, not the retail price. Historically the value has translated into about 2 dollars per point.
Rules
- Books must be purchased through the Book Points Chair. No reimbursements.
- Books can only be ordered at the specified times.
- Points can be saved for future purchases.
- If a person's membership has expired, that person must use book points at the very next purchasing period or lose any remaining points, regardless of whether the person rejoins later. The owner of book points is responsible to notify the Chair about their points within three months of leaving MAS. (Otherwise, bookkeeping would be a nightmare!)
- Books will be awarded at the monthly meeting.
- The point values are set by the Book Points Chair.
- All awards are in books or other published material.
